I have been a Community Governor at HSLC since October 2000. I have lived in Hornsea since1985 having moved here from Scotland.I am married with three grown up children, all of whom were educated at HSLC. For the last fifteen years I have worked at Eastgate Medical Group in the dispensary, and have recently retired. I enjoy reading, gardening, walking and singing in a local choir, spending time with my two grandchildren, and, when time allows, travelling. I very much enjoy all aspects of being a Governor and have served on various committees, and been linked to several faculties. At present I am the link Governor for Extended Schools and I am a member of the finance, personnel and curriculum sub committees. I feel extremely proud to be associated with HSLC and over the last twenty years, I have seen the school progress enormously, and I believe is well on its way to becoming an "outstanding" school.

Having been a teacher until I retired, education has always been my greatest interest. Originally I became a Hornsea governor when my children were pupils here. I am secretary of two educational charities for young people, one in Leven and one in Beverley. As a governor at HSLC I am a member of the Personnel, Finance, Curriculum and Scrutiny sub-committees. I am particularly interested in curriculum issues - as government cuts bite it becomes more difficult to sustain some of the less popular subjects although these subjects are very important areas of study if the school is to be able to offer a wide and diverse curriculum. For many years I enjoyed being Link governor to the very successful Social Sciences faculty but have now moved to the equally successful Performing Arts Faculty. As the link governor I visit classes in Dance, Drama and Music with students from all year groups and have particularly enjoyed attending various performances including exciting rehearsals for the latest school production. At home I garden, I read, I look after my cats, ducks and chickens and I involve myself in politics.

Hello my name is Steven Knapton, and I am a co-opted governor. I spent my work life, all 37 years of it as a history teacher at the school. Both of our sons attended the school and Margret my wife and myself both believe they had an excellent education which has enabled them to succeed in their chosen careers. I am a non - stipendiary minister in the united Reformed Church. In my life I have been a parent governor at Hornsea Community School, a staff governor at Hornsea Secondary School and a church appointed governor of a 3-18 Co-ed independent day school. Being a governor is one way of giving back to the school for all that it have given me. Having recently stepped down from being the convenor of our church’s Yorkshire children and young people’s committee I am aware of some of the challenges our students face today. I think this school does an excellent job of giving students the resilience to be able to cope with many of these challenges. Every child matters is at the heart of what this school tries to do, and I see it a privilege to be a member of the governing body of Hornsea School and Language College.

I joined HSLC as an employee at the start of the academic year 2005. Along with teaching Mathematics, my main roles in school include SENCO, including oversight of the school's Enhanced Education Resource, along with a responsibility for the Most Able cohort and the Disadvantaged (as defined by Ofsted) cohort. All aspects of the roles involve liaising with all staff (in both a teaching role and a support role) parents/carers and most importantly liaising with the students directly. I feel that this enables me to have a diverse knowledge of how the school operates and the opportunities which are available for the young people who attend HSLC. In addition, I work closely with the feeder primary schools supporting the transfer from Y6 to Y7. Almost all aspects of my role evolve around ensuring the students at HSLC achieve their potential. At HSLC we are committed to providing the highest possible standard of education for all students of all abilities. As a member of the governing body of the school, I hope that I can contribute to this in an active way.

I am Betty; I live in Hornsea with my husband and 2 children. My son is at HSLC and my daughter is at HCPS. We moved to Hornsea 5 years ago from West Sussex. I’ve worked in broadcast technology for the past 20 years. I am also a qualified Forest School Leader and have worked with children both here and in Surrey. I have an honours degree in Fine Art from Durban University of technology South Africa.
I volunteer at HSLC every Friday working with the students in the DT department. I love watching the children learn and grow, it is very rewarding. I’ve seen many positive changes at the school in the last couple of years and I am keen to help grow the school further.
