Hair and Beauty (BTEC Level 2)

Home study is vital for success and students need the determination and   commitment to be successful in a very competitive industry.  Students will have the opportunity to take part in a range of work experience which will enrich their studies and teach new skills which will be invaluable to employers.


Students may progress straight into a salon as a salon assistant/junior or, the course also provides skills transferable to other subject areas.



What will you be learning?

This is an introduction to hairdressing and beauty and working as a salon assistant, providing a stepping stone to Level 2 Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy.


The main programme of study includes: 


· Introduction to the Hair and Beauty sector

· Presenting a professional image in a salon

· Health and Safety in the salon

· Shampooing and conditioning hair

· Dressing hair

· Styling women's and men's hair

· Reception duties

· Skin care

· Hand care

· Applying basic make-up and nail art

· Themed face painting

· Functional Skills in Maths and English

· Work Skills including team work
Experience of work

The tailored lessons are held on site in a fully functioning salon. This enables students to

experience a hands on approach to learning as well as the theory side of the course.


How is it assessed?

Assessments include:

· Practical assessment

· Assignment work
