HSLC has been partnered with Keiai Gakuen High School in Chiba, Japan and Beverley High for a number of years. Last December we welcomed a group of Japanese students from Chiba and they stayed with us for one week as part of their ‘study abroad’ programme. They were hosted by some of our students and families in their homes. Last month 6 students participated in the reciprocal visit to Japan and spent an amazing week learning about and living the Japanese culture. A number of students were lucky to be home-stayed with Japanese families and were completely immersed in the Japanese way of life! We spent a couple of days in Keiai High school, taking part in some of their lessons, which included learning to play the Koto, a Japanese string instrument, Science lessons and Japanese History lessons! We also participated in their after school activities, learning about the traditional Japanese tea ceremony and street entertainment activities. During our trip to japan we visited Disneyland in Tokyo, the Harajuku area of Tokyo and after taking an elevator in the Tokyo Sky Tree to 450m, we were able to see for miles the magnificent views over Tokyo and surrounding areas towards Mount Fuji. This really was a trip of a life time, enjoying new experiences of a completely different culture to that of our own. Japan is an amazing country, with people that are very proud of their traditions and keen to share them with us. We now look forward to welcoming a new group of Japanese students to HSLC next month and then another trip to Japan in October 2016.
