SAFEGUARDING AND CHILD PROTECTION

HSLC Safeguarding Contacts and Information

Pupil well-being and safety is of paramount importance at Hornsea School and Language College (HSLC). Our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy and school procedures and format of this document, have been developed in line with recommendations and guidance from the East Riding Safeguarding Children Board (ERSCB). The aim is to protect and promote the welfare, safety and healthy development of all pupils by fostering an honest, open, caring and supportive community. As a school we strongly advocate inclusion for all and are committed to working in partnership to achieve this, with Parents / Carers and our partner agencies that are able to offer support. We believe that creating a learning community where students who feel safe, happy and settled is key to achieving best outcomes.

Please be aware that in line with guidance provided to school by the Local Authority and documented in the HSLC Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy (p.7, s.9.2 and s.24), there may be occasions that, due to specific circumstances and concerns, contact is made with partner agencies and advice sought, prior to parent / carers being contacted. However, this is by exception and the established and routine approach is to seek to work in a proactive and positive way with parents and carers.

HSLC support Operation Encompass.

Operation Encompass was created and is supported by Humberside Police to ensure that by 9.00am on the next day the school will be informed that a child or young person has been involved in a domestic abuse incident. This knowledge, given to the school's trained Key Adult, allows school to be aware of difficulties and ensure an appropriate response is in place to any identified need. Discreet support will be geared to individual circumstances.
