BTEC in Digital Media Production

This qualification is designed to provide a technical introduction to digital content publishing. Learners develop skills in areas such as digital magazine production, image manipulation techniques and writing and editing copy.

This course is suitable for students who prefer coursework to exams as such a large proportion of the course is internally assessed.
As with any BTEC course students must be able to organise their workload outside of the classroom and be prepared to work on their assignment in their study lessons.


If you have an eye for design and want to develop practical skills using Adobe packages such as Indesign and Photoshop whilst learning the theory behind the design this is the perfect course for you.

Unit 3: Digital Media Skills

In this synoptic unit you will learn how to work to a client brief relating to a specific media sector and its associated digital skills. You will choose the format and medium for your digital media project and demonstrate your creative and technical skills acquired throughout the course in the production of a complete product. this unit, you will need to draw on your learning from across your programme.

Unit 14: Digital Magazine Products

Learn about the codes and conventions that magazine producers use to communicate with their target audience, and how they generate, select and prepare materials to produce a completed magazine cover and double-page spread.

Unit 26: Writing Copy

The production of original text, known as copywriting, is an important element in the construction of most print-based and interactive media texts. In this unit you will develop skills to produce copy for different purposes and a range of publications.

Unit 28: Image Manipulation Techniques

Image manipulation is used to create and enhance photographic images, in this unit, you will learn about historic and contemporary approaches to image manipulation and use these skills to correct images for a range of purposes.

Unit 30: Page Layout Design for Digital Media

Whether it’s a web page, magazine spread or brochure, the best way to communicate with your audience is through a great layout. In this unit, you will explore the creative application of these principles and have the opportunity to plan, design and produce page layouts for both the page and the screen.
